This prayer recalls the hour when Jesus, on Calvary, gave Mary as Mother to His beloved disciple.
“This prayer recalls the hour when Jesus, on Calvary, gave Mary as Mother to His beloved disciple and asked him to take her into his home. Traditionally this prayer reminds Marianists of the mystery of the spiritual maternity of Mary and the invitation addressed to all of us to live as a child of Mary and to take her into our hearts.” (FMI Rule of Life (1984), II.3) And as the SM Rule of Life reminds us, the Three O’Clock Prayer is the “spiritual reunion of all Marianists” (SM Rule of Life (2007), 4.7).
