About This Video

In 1981, brothers and priests of the Society of Mary (Marianists) gathered from around the world in Linz, Austria with an enormous task at hand: finalizing their new Rule of Life. This video, produced by the North American Center for Marianist Studies, features interviews with some of the brothers and priests from the United States who attended this chapter, as well as photographs and documents from the time during and before the chapter, to tell the story of how the new Rule was made. This video project came about through an invitation from Father Oscar Vasquez, Provincial of the Marianist Province of the United States, asking NACMS to produce something that would record the living memory of the General Chapter of 1981, which wrote the revision of the Constitutions – The Rule of Life. This video includes the thinking behind the need to revise the Constitution, recollections by Marianists who were at that General Chapter, and reveals the legacy of this Rule of Life that was written 40 years ago.
